The Standards Committee’s main focus is on development of a new set of international standards for the oil and gas industry, as described in the position paper. Many of these standards are based on American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications plus OGP member documents and other relevant industry input. The vision for the work is ‘Global standards used locally worldwide’.

The Committee works for national and regional harmonisation of standards at an international level, in order to establish ‘one set of words’ for the global oil and gas industry. See the list of American and European adoptions of ISO standards here: 'Global standards used locally worldwide.'

The Standards Committee releases an annual bulletin with a centrefold poster (as seen left) which may be downloaded by clicking on the Publications link to the left.

An extensive Catalogue of international standards for the oil and gas industries (PDF file) used by member companies of the OGP Standards Committee may be downloaded by clicking the link.

The OGP Standards Committee has contact with national regulators through the International Regulators Forum (IRF) with an aim to remove unjustified differences in national regulations in order to ease international trade. This will facilitate global trade and easier movement of drilling rigs, diving vessels, FPSOs (floating production, storage and offloading facilities) etc.

The Committee has arranged a series of workshops to engage local industry in discussions on the development and use of international standards where the oil & gas industry is active. Review workshop presentations here. The Committee also serves as a forum for subject matter experts meetings, sharing experience, agreeing issues and harmonisation of actions between member companies.

The committee has launched a project to provide financial support for editing of international standards. Please contact Alf Reidar Johansen if you need support for ISO/TC67 standards editing.

In September 2006, ISO/TC67 was awarded the prestigious Lawrence D. Eicher Leadership Award. Read more about it here.
