Members of the OGP metocean committee have initiated many jointly funded projects aimed at improving technology as well as improving or quantifying the safety of offshore operations. The scope of the projects has varied from generating hindcast databases of regions such as the South China Sea, West Africa, North Sea, to developing new methods (e.g. Safetrans, 10 -4 waves), to comparing instruments such as wave sensors, to basic research such as the definition of distributions for wave crest elevations (WACSIS).
